Darin Detherow is a 35 year old Fire Equipment Operator for the City of Tulsa and was a top finisher in our 25 week Challenge for Fit First Responders.

Visit Darin’s story here:

Darin’s favorite aspect of FFR is the atmosphere at Fit First Responders. He explains, “The results you get by pushing one another in a group atmosphere cannot be replicated on your own. The coaches ability to inspire, motivate, and put things into perspective are really what separate this program from similar ones out there.”

Since the beginning of the competition, Darin has transformed his body physically, losing over 53 pounds and dropping 12 inches off his waist size. He has gained physical strength that he didn’t think possible. He has increased his max bench press by 25 pounds, his deadlift by 90 pounds, and has gained three inches in his flexibility. He says, “But even better is the way this program has transformed my overall health. After 23 long years, I am no longer a slave to chewing tobacco nor do I have to rely on medication to regulate my blood pressure. Mentally, I now feel there is nothing that I cannot accomplish. Once I set my mind on a goal, I know it will be attained. I have also gained a new respect for the other first responding agencies in the Tulsa metro. The fact that we all went through this challenge together built a respect that has carried over to the streets of Tulsa.”

Darin talks about the changes FFR has made in his life: “The Fit First Responder family has shown me how to take control of my physical health and improve my habits, but even more importantly how to change my thinking. I have learned that all change begins with the mindset. How YOU perceive the situation YOU are in!”

Going forward, Darin intends on using the knowledge and habits formed during the 25 week challenge to continue bettering himself and the people around him.
